I was so excited to work with this family and enjoyed their session so much! I met this mama at a beauty salon – I was mid-eyelash extension appointment and she ended up following me on Instagram after we got chatting all about the nub-theory (if you’re currently pregnant and desperate to know what you’re having – Google it and thank me later! 😂)

I always ask my clients to send me a few photos of the spaces in their home where they have good window light. As a natural light photographer, this really helps me make a plan for the session so I can be sure that your images are perfectly lit. Some families prefer not to incorporate too much of their home – however this mama had put so much love into decorating her sweet boy’s nursery that I made sure to include that space in her gallery.

I used just two rooms for this session. The lounge where I moved the TV slightly and created a blank wall for some beautiful family portraits and at mama’s request some breastfeeding images of her and her boy. I also used the large window there to lay Charlie on my beanbag (I take one to every session) and got mama snuggled into him for some gorgeously emotive photos that I just fell in love with. I even grabbed one of their houseplants to add some extra visual interest – mama’s home was full of them so it was a really nice touch to add!

Secondly, we used the nursery. I used the window here to create a brighter background so that I could get some black & white images of them as a family. This approach looks a lot like the photos were taken in a studio but it’s all just light and Photoshop trickery!

For styling, mama wore a beautiful dress by Reclamation Design Company from my Client Wardrobe. Together we decided on a deep red/burgundy jumper for Dad as this complimented both the dress and the colours in their home. Charlie wore the cutest bloomers from Hank Knitwear and wrapped in the softest knitted blanket. The session was absolutely gorgeous and mama was over the moon with her gallery which means everything to me!
